Laurynas BiveinisSoftware Systems Engineer in Databases
There are way too few of us systems software engineers today. So, let me sell you the virtues of C, C++, POSIX, and debugging of Heisenbugs!
About me
I have started programming at the age of nine, and now - almost three decades later - still find it to be as exciting as it was back then. I work on low-level system (kernels, compilers, databases) internals development. During my MSc studies I worked on GCC compiler at Google Summer of Code program and then at Google itself as an intern. Then I did research as a PhD student on database spatial indexes. While there were some good results, ultimately I lost interest in finishing the degree, and moved to MySQL world at Percona. During the eight years there I played a part in pushing the technical MySQL state of the art forward and ended up as the MySQL dev team technical lead.

💻 Freelancing career advice
Most of the time of my career I’ve been freelancing. Now I'm running design studio full-time. It took some time to master it but now I’m extremely happy that big companies such as Wolt, Baltic Petroleum, etc. choose me over big agencies. I can help you getting there as well!

Digital Nomad Life
Over the past years, I have worked from various countries, from India to Spain or Greece. The journey has not been that easy and I have made plenty of mistakes on the way. Moving to a new country for a few months without knowing anyone can be challenging, laptop on a beach is not a reality.

Starting you own business as a Student
I have founded a company in my first year of university. My goal was to help my fellow international students have a more convenient move in by providing a starter kit. Over two years, I grew the company to $50k+ in revenue and led a team of 6 part-timers to accomplish our mission :)
