I think this is true on so many levels. Not only are we a compound of chemical reactions but we are also blessed with a internal compass that guides us to stability. I've always thought that seeking peace is the key to happiness. Peace In the sense where you dont react as much and instead you create through sparks of creativity fueled by others . Would you agree?

Hi Fernando! That's right, we each have our own chemistry and especially that inner compass allows us to find the direction in what we need. I call that tapping into our inner wisdom. Our chemistry changes as we learn to embody higher states of happiness. The path you describe is one path to happiness. A very important component for happiness is the feeling of not being at the effect of our environment but instead being able to author our own life. The term I use for that is equanimity, which is one of the qualities of experience we find in peace. However we can also be equanimous to our circumstances and be explosive or creative in our personality. So we do not necessarily need to wait for creative sparks of others and still create our own. Yaay! 馃寛

Equanimity is such a great word. I will use it henceforth to refer to what I believe peace encompasses. That inner wisdom is always right since it always points to what we actually want ( I would hope) . Maybe the challenge would be to always want the things that are best for us. Regardless, I agree with you on this insight and hope to hear from you again on this platform 馃懀

It would not be wisdom if it was not good for us right? :) But sometimes it's wise to do something that isn't wise. I don't think we need to worry about life ever becoming boring, even if we choose to follow a wise path in life. :) Looking forward to see more of you on this platform also!

There's more to it, some don't have what it takes to be happy

That's true. Without the right approach and the right tools, and possibly the right genetic make up, some people may never be happy. I do believe that for those that can be happy, it does not take that much from outside themselves to be it. Under the conditions that they know how to access it. What do you think Anatol?

Material stuff will not make us as happy as we thought it would, nor will marriage (on the long-run). Humans are very bad at identifying what will make them happy. On the other hand, something that will work is gratefulness, random acts of kindness, or making new social connections.

It happens often that our minds' strongest intuitions are wrong, so we will follow an idea and realise after that it didn't have as much impact as we thought it would. These bias are very common but once you know they exist, you can avoid them
