Aesthetic pleasure is a mental response to art: visual, literature, music, dance or other art objects, natural phenomenons or any other beautiful items. Our brain likes it really a lot, in neurophysiological sense - regardless of whether we experience positive or negative emotions during this experience. 🎨 Sad music ir painting affects the same area of the brain as joyful emotions; even of the contents of the art object represent threatening or painful subject, we first of all perceive it as fiction and experience the sense of security in reality stronger. We pay more attention to the technique, novelty, surprise element, the depth of the emotional experience and a possibility to transfer ourselves to reality different than our daily life. 🎹 sense of aesthetic pleasure strengthens the subjective psychological well-being and health, acts through the empathetic state and strengthens it (which is I think why it may bring us to tears sometimes), also may induce us to process ambiguous information (which requires tolerance to vague and undefined ideas). 🎭 the better observer is able to comprehend and process the object of art, the stronger impact and impression (as well as aesthetic pleasure) it makes on the observer. Therefore more realistic, representative art is better suited for academic, healthcare, work environments and more abstract ones - in the dedicated art spaces. And now, let's remember the last time when we mindfully and intentionally spent time to admire a piece of art. Truly, sincerely, not "in the background" and not "because everyone has already seen it". Not to pass the time and not to numb the feeling we don't want to feel by making all of our senses scream. Along all other measures of me-time, taking care of our inner peace and development, strengthening our mental health - this is one of the less remembered but more accessible ways. Minimalism is a way of life focused on owning as few things as possible (or only as many as necessary). Besides obvious financial or time-saved-for-tidying advantages, switching to minimalism as minimalism itself has noticeable psychological benefits. Participants in this qualitative study were practitioners of minimalism. They stated that they enjoy an improved wellbeing due to increased autonomy, competence, mental space, awareness and positive emotions. Previous research also identifies themes of simplicity, pro-ecological behaviors and control on materialism. How many thing s do you own that you do not really need? Does minimalism, besides being nice source of content for social media, have any other benefits, for example, psychological? Apparently, it does. The research outlines four behaviors related to minimalism: clutter removal, cautious shopping, longevity (of the purchased items, I assume) and self-sufficiency. The research also found that minimalism significantly increases feeling of flourishing (nice choice of the term!) and alleviates depression. 👆 I _always_ said, that tidying is a great form of meditation, that it is also a series of calm, repetitive motions (and leads to relaxation), besides, the result is always visually pleasing!
