Several unhealthy coping ways. I know, "coping" sounds kind of weird, but still shorter than "dealing with issues in you life", so here you go. - Projections - when you are afraid of something, but keep focusing on the same fears in other people. You comment, criticize, try to fix others - but not yourself. The initial idea born in your had is probably the right one - you got to fix this - but at the very last moment the direction of action suddenly changes towards others. And the feeling is almost as if you dealt with your fear, and now are helping others! It is about people who kindly help others to put on the parachutes, because they are too scared to jump themselves. - Dissociation is about picking out bits and pieces of reality that you accept and ignoring others. "She is abusing you! - No, I don't see anything like it". or "No, I am not afraid", regardless of shaking hands and pale face. - self-medication (which of course in not herbal, it is about drugs, alcohol and nicotine). It allows to focus on something different, even if for a little while. But in reality it is more like sticking your head in the sand, and just as helpful. People usually deny that they use such strategy. - Denial is sees as selective ignoring of information. Person still buys food for two, speaks to the absent person and still plans for that vacations with money that is long gone. No, it is not sweet, and it draws away attention from what needs to be processed. Sounds familiar? Minimalism is a way of life focused on owning as few things as possible (or only as many as necessary). Besides obvious financial or time-saved-for-tidying advantages, switching to minimalism as minimalism itself has noticeable psychological benefits. Participants in this qualitative study were practitioners of minimalism. They stated that they enjoy an improved wellbeing due to increased autonomy, competence, mental space, awareness and positive emotions. Previous research also identifies themes of simplicity, pro-ecological behaviors and control on materialism. How many thing s do you own that you do not really need? Does minimalism, besides being nice source of content for social media, have any other benefits, for example, psychological? Apparently, it does. The research outlines four behaviors related to minimalism: clutter removal, cautious shopping, longevity (of the purchased items, I assume) and self-sufficiency. The research also found that minimalism significantly increases feeling of flourishing (nice choice of the term!) and alleviates depression. 👆 I _always_ said, that tidying is a great form of meditation, that it is also a series of calm, repetitive motions (and leads to relaxation), besides, the result is always visually pleasing!
