How to remain mindful whilst thinking about the future or reflecting upon the past? We often give too much control to my mind, without being aware of how it affects us, failing to notice coming thoughts, their source and how they make us feel. It is important to become quicker to realize when we are drifting away from the present moment to future plans or past regrets. Does it mean that we should always try to stop future/past thoughts, always trying to be in the present moment? Absolutely no. I learned, that whenever we are planning the future, we should be aware of the planning process and be fully immersed in it, putting future planning in the present. Similarly, reflections of the past (I am a believer in reflective-journalling) should also be done consciously and mindfully. This does not only improve our present realities, but also allows us to get deeper into learning from our past experiences and become better at building our future. Dedicate a time to think about the future or the past, do not let these overrun your present moments. This can bring clarity to the mind, reduce stress, enhance focus and empower us to experience long-lasting joy at its’ fullest.
